Tool Introduction

Poison Mushroom Benchmark is a browser-based GPU stress test. It renders the classic “poison mushroom” volume-shader scene in real time so you can see FPS and stability on your device—no app install required.

Who it is for

  • Users who want a quick read on laptop, desktop, or mobile browser graphics performance
  • Technicians comparing FPS across multiple machines
  • Developers and enthusiasts curious about WebGL volume-shading visuals

What you get

  • Fully local rendering—frames stay on your device
  • Live, max, min, and average FPS plus a stability score
  • A cleaned-up GPU name for easy notes and sharing
  • Three scene presets—mushroom, cosine, and Julia—with different load and look
  • Multiple render resolutions to balance smoothness and load
  • Copy or download a text report that includes scene, kernel mode, resolution, and the test URL
  • Advanced Kernel editing with reset-to-default and view reset options

How to use

  1. Read the low-power device warning, then tap Start Test
  2. Watch the FPS panel and sparkline during immersive rendering
  3. Drag to rotate, right-drag to pan, wheel to zoom; on touch use one finger to rotate and two fingers to pan/zoom
  4. Open Settings to switch presets, change resolution, or edit the Kernel; open Score to copy or download the report
  5. Tap End to return to the intro screen anytime

Tips

This test keeps the GPU busy. On phones or weak integrated graphics it may heat up, stutter, or briefly freeze—confirm before starting. Rendering pauses when the tab is hidden.

The default mushroom kernel matches the classic original for fair comparisons. Cosine and Julia change both visuals and load—note the scene when sharing scores. Custom kernels need basic GLSL knowledge; invalid code can fail to compile.

FAQ

Q: Why is the scene a centered square with black borders?

A: The original effect is square. Keeping a centered square avoids stretch distortion; black borders are expected.

Q: Can I compare scores across different scenes?

A: Prefer same scene and resolution. Mushroom, cosine, and Julia are not equivalent workloads; the report labels scene and default vs custom kernel.

Q: Is a low FPS always a problem?

A: Higher resolution and weaker GPUs lower FPS. Try 512 first. If it stays extremely low, check that hardware acceleration is enabled in the browser.

Q: How do I exit the test screen?

A: Tap End in the top-right to return to the intro. You can also press Esc—it closes settings/score first, then exits the test.

Q: What about credits?

A: Original shader by cznull@bilibili. This page adds a clearer test flow, scoring, and sharing on the Toolshu platform.
