What Are the Rules for Chinese Uppercase Amounts?

Under People's Bank of China guidelines, there are a few easy-to-get-wrong requirements:

Use the formal uppercase characters: 壹贰叁肆伍陆柒捌玖拾佰仟万亿 — standard lowercase numerals (一二三) are not acceptable, and self-invented simplified forms are not permitted.

When to add 整 ("exactly"): If the amount ends at yuan with no jiao or fen, write 整 or 正 after 元. If there is a jiao but no fen, 整 is optional after the jiao. If there is a fen, do not write 整 at the end.

Prefix with 人民币: On formal instruments and settlement documents, the uppercase amount must be preceded by the characters 人民币 (Renminbi) — this field must not be left blank.
