UUID Generator is a browser-based tool for creating and inspecting universally unique identifiers. It covers every widely used UUID version, supports bulk generation and custom formatting, exports results to common developer formats, and can read the version, variant and timestamp of identifiers you already have. All work happens locally in your browser.
Supported Versions
- v1: includes the generation time and node information, useful when identifiers need to be traced back to a moment in time.
- v3 / v5: derived from a namespace and a name, so the same pair always produces the same identifier, using MD5 and SHA-1 respectively.
- v4: fully random and suitable for most applications.
- v6 / v7: time-ordered identifiers; v7 keeps incrementing even when several are created within the same millisecond, which makes it a good database primary key.
- v8: a custom format that accepts your own hex input, or a name hash computed with SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512.
- Nil / Max: the all-zero and all-F special values used for empty and maximum cases.
Formatting and Output
- Switch between the standard form, GUID, hyphen-less and URN-prefixed output, and customize the separator, letter case and braces.
- Output styles include one per line, comma separated, space separated, quoted lines, JSON array, CSV, SQL IN, SQL VALUES, Python list, Base64 and C byte array.
- Generate 1 to 1000 identifiers at a time, then copy them, download TXT, JSON, CSV, SQL, PY or C files, or export a spreadsheet to Excel.
Inspecting Existing UUIDs
Paste one or more identifiers and the tool reports the canonical form, the current format, version, variant, timestamp, clock sequence and node value, plus the Base64 representation. Braces, URN prefixes and hyphen-less input are all recognized.
Use Cases
- Producing test primary keys and unique identifiers for APIs, databases and fixtures.
- Creating v7 identifiers when distributed IDs must sort by creation time.
- Checking the version and timestamp of identifiers found in logs, test cases or API responses.
- Preparing ready-to-paste identifiers for SQL statements, JSON data, Python lists or C arrays.
How to Use
- Pick a UUID version; a short explanation of that version appears below the selector.
- Set the count and adjust the format preset, separator or letter case as needed.
- Choose an output style and click Generate.
- Copy the first result, copy a single row, copy everything, download a file, or export to Excel.
- To check existing identifiers, paste them into the inspection area and click Inspect.
FAQ
Q: Can generated UUIDs collide?
A: Random versions such as v4 rely on the browser's cryptographically secure random source, so collisions are negligible at normal usage levels. v3 and v5 are deterministic by design: the same namespace and name always yield the same identifier.
Q: Should I choose v4 or v7?
A: Choose v4 when you only need a unique value. Choose v7 when the identifier serves as a database primary key and you want rows to sort by insertion time, because its prefix carries a timestamp.
Q: How many identifiers can be generated at once?
A: Up to 1000 per run. The inspection area handles up to 500 lines and keeps only the first 500.
Q: Is the data uploaded to a server?
A: No. Generation and inspection run entirely in your browser, and nothing is uploaded or stored on a server.
Q: Are my settings remembered?
A: Version, format and output preferences are saved in the current browser and reused the next time you open the page.
